Boiled Pistons (a Thanksgiving Treat)

So I was making some boiled pistons and found a couple of tips to share for Thanksgiving:

The FSM shows making a little bit bigger batch:
View attachment 1579718

Instructions:
1. Grab a pot (maybe don't use your spouses favorite pot, the reason for this should be obvious)
2. Add the pistons on the connecting rods, and water, but don't add too much water, to keep the powerful flavors the correct water level is just at the bottom of the pins. (With the...

So I have had an oil leak for a month or so. Nothing serious. I did an oil change and found the oil filter loose. Not like it was gonna fall off but had no resistance when I removed it. Which was kinda nice becuase is so so easy to get off haha..

But when I removed it the piece that the oil filter screws into the came off with the filter. Sorry I don't know the correct term for it.. it's theaded on both ends. It was pretty tight on the filter needed a wrench to remove it.

I just...

3B N/A EGTs

Hey fellas.

I've put an egt probe on my non-turbo 3B and I'm curious to hear if others have experienced the results I'm getting.

It's confirmed something I've always suspected, the max egts increase in proportion to RPMs. Under 2000rpm it's hard to get over 550°c (1020f) and under 1600rpm it won't go higher than 450ish (840f). Highway driving even dropping to 4th (so up to 3000rpm) I can't get above 670ish (1240f).

So fueling increases with rpms. Power increases with rpms until about...

There are some people who may not want to shell out for a gturbo or just want to simply go a different route. I for one know of a couple and I am pondering on building something up that I would like to out perform my current turbo. This isn't a dig at Graeme or anything, it's nothing personal. I along with many other people like the idea with experimenting too. This thread will bring to light turbo comparisons. There are alternative routes for everything.

Morning all-I had started a thread on this build in the general tech thread, but now that I'm getting a better idea of the challenges, most of them involve the OM617. I should mention that I have no experience with this motor, and inherited the 1/2 finished project as a pile of unlabeled, disorganized boxes. This is going to be tough as I am not a great mechanic, have minimal tools and limited budget... and am clearly in over my head!

If any of the moderators want to merge the threads...

HDJ81 ACSD leaking, with video - please confirm

Hey guys,

Been doing some research, and I think my bad fuel leak is at the ACSD. Going to try and attach a vid. You can see the leak drip right below what I think is the ACSD. Can anyone confirm this? I've been parking on a truck bed mat for a month or two now, and with the rainy Vancouver weather now my driveway is rainbow. :bang:

  1. Hi All

I need a few measurements from a HJ61 bellhousing and H55F gearbox input shaft please.

The width/ thickness of the bell housing (engine to g box) ??

The length of the input shaft, gearbox face to tip (not from bearing retainer please)

    OR

The input shaft tip distance in relation to the engine face of the bellhousing and whether this protrudes or is reassessed within the bellhousing

I have some conversion plans going through what’s called my mind, and I don’t have any...

So after many years of talking about, lurking through forums, and frankly annoying even myself with all talk and no action, I finally bit the bullet and started the swap process. I knew I wanted a diesel engine in the truck, partially for mileage, partially for cool/sound factor, so everyone (including me) whose thinking "An LS swap would have been easier and more power" can keep those comments for another thread ;) . I landed on the Mercedes OM606 due to availability (found a wrecked...

13B-T Lift Pump leaking diesel fuel in to motor oil FIXED

For about five years now I've been searching how diesel fuel is in getting in to my motor oil. About five years back the 13B-T almost had a RUN-A-WAY thank god this engine has a flapper valve engine stop and stopped the engine. The motor oil had 8% diesel fuel in it and was sucking the the motor oil as fuel. So in the last five years had the following tested and checked for leaks injectors, rings & valves. Everything is inline with spec's. But when inspecting the IP they found the Lift...

Additional Oil Pressure Location for 1HZ/1HD-T?

OK, so I'm looking for a place to drill and tap (or find a plug) to sense oil pressure on the 1HZ. The stock oil pressure sensor location is spoken for (and I already have one Tee fitting on it for the turbo oil supply).

So, is there any location that any of you have used to add an additional oil pressure sensor? I'm looking at the oil galley, and it looks like there's a spot about 3/4" of an inch from the existing stock location that I could sort of drill and tap, but there's no obvious...

Subject vehicle - 1988 FJ 62. Original 3FE approaching 300,000 miles. H55 manual trans. Engine burns little oil and seems as strong as ever.

I've read through the diesel section and have tried to educate myself as best I can. I'm considering a diesel conversion and I have a "very" good mechanic that will do the swap. We seem to be able to find a 1HZ that he says he can turbo. In the back of my mind for whatever reason I think that the 1HDT would be a better engine. Maybe because that was...

Team,

Having some frustrating idle issues.

Engine is 1HDT. Issues started around 6 months ago with a bad idle shake. No noticeable drop in rpm. Shaking so bad that transfer lever moving side to side.

I undertook the following:
  • New engine mounts - no change
  • Transfer case rebuild and mount - no change (had to do this to address a transfer issue that arose at the same time.
  • Injector pump and injectors rebuild - probably the best shop in australia Nd had all the Denso mods...

3B forklift starter in 24V BJ70?

Starter on my 24V BJ70 appears to be on it's last leg. A quick search for "Toyota 3B starter" on google turns up plenty of cheap $100 dollar or so new starters that are listed for forklifts. A couple of the ads also list BJ40/70 series. Says it's 24V and 11 tooth so I'd imagine they should work/be the same yeah? Just wanted to see if anyone has gone that route previously before I buy one. Thanks.

Hello,

After struggling with a number of gremlins on my 1HZ in a HZJ77, I've decided to get it rebuilt to 1HZ-T spec. Some of the history was documented in this thread.

1HZ fuel in oil

I've deliberated quite a bit on a 1HDT or 1HDFT swap, but the scarcity of these engines in the states, cost of import and the factor of unknowns with getting a used engine that can result in even more cost has brought me to just rebuild...

Gauging interest on swap kits OM 613

As we are progressing with installation of OM613 3.2 CDI Mercedes into FZJ 80. I am gauging interest on adapter kits for OM 611/612/613 and 648 engines to drop into family of TLCs and Runners.

As these family of the engines are the same, only difference on number of cylinders and displacement, right now we are making OM 613 mated with H151F manual trans for FZJ80. Also we are looking into making the custom flexplate for A440F and A442F. It will be direct bolton flywheels and flexpates. And...

I need suggestions for better transmission cooling.
- 96 1KZ-TE with A343F AT.
- B&M 13,000 BTU trans cooler connected after the rad (i.e. trans outlet - rad - cooler - trans inlet). It's installed in front of the rad.
- 7" fan on the trans cooler blowing air at it
- Synthetic ATF

I find that I am still sometimes running too hot when when climbing up a long hill or wheeling. Last weekend I went about 2-3km up a logging road, climbing up about 400m, going no faster than 30 km/h. I was in 2WD...
